Darkening Episode 2



Synopsis

One day I was surfing the web when I came the Darkening web page. I was blown away by the screenshots. I immediately emailed one of the team members (Ben Davies in fact) who replied back with a thanks. He offered to send me the darkening texture resources and let me playtest his level. The textures resources (done by Ola Bjorling) were too hard to pass up and eventually I ended up working on a level of my own. I finally submitted it to Jan and he let me on the team. The rest is history. All said and done I think this is my favorite and best work.


In total there is 12 SP and 12 DM levels by the likes of Ola Bjorling, Ben Davies, Richard Wiles, Jan Van der Veken, Nick Baker, Derek Mac Donald, and Adam Windsor.

    Just an email to say 'hi' :) Like I told Ola, congrats with your Darkening level... one of the better ones in that already good megawad! I hope progress on Mordeth is going to pick up now that you seem to have finished some of your other projects... I could do with some good news for a change.

  • Here is my demo for Darkening E2 MAP04. This map is very well done, great looks and also nicely balanced gameplay. I really enjoyed playing with it because I never run out of shotgun ammo, which makes a fluent, fast play. It's fortunate to see the 4 rockets in this map, they really come handy to kill the revenants which would be rather hard to kill with any other ammo. Hmmm... anything else... this is a really typical demo contest map.

    First let me congrate you, map04 is one heck of a map! I really feel like recording this one :) I saw over at DW that you found a visplane: is it the one one in the yellowkey area? I'll send you some more specific details about it if you want me to.

    Its a real pice of work this map - stunning design. The secrets are innovative - and the whole base feel this map gives is kinda uniq for a doom level. From a demomakers perspective it still needs some more ammo though, there is enough, but a few more shells (or rockets) would really do the trick. Maybe it would be too drastic, but a berserk pack instead of that chainsaw would make for alot of interesting tactics...in any case, expect some demos for this cookie! :)

    MAP04 was great architecturally, though it's difficulty was _SEVERELY_ lacking (I mean, a group of teleporting imps? On Ultra-Violence!? Bah.). I found that this map really shined with played with -nomonsters. I especially loved that part where you get the rocket launcher and sneak up on the revenants...that outdoor area is amazingly well-built. What's with that secret with the green armor? Running through lava for a suit of green armor? Yeesh...
