Classic Series

Synopsis

Jan Van der Veken created a set of wads he called "classic" which were intended to emulate the feel of Ultimate DOOM. He created 3 maps (classic1 - classic3) which was followed up by classic 4 by Travers Dunne and Nick Baker. I started working on some rooms that were inspired from the classic series and episode 1. I went on to create classic5 and help finish up Jan's earlier unreleased creations (classic6 + classic7). Finally, two more wads were created and joined with the previous 7 released (some updated) to create The Classic Episode. The initial release of The Classic Episode was on December 20, 2000. Version 2.0 was released on August 31, 2002. In 2003 Jan continued the series with classic10 and classic11.

Feedback / Reviews

  • Anthony, I just played through Classic 5 -- very very cool. I can see influences from all the Episode One maps in that one. Excellent scary stuff with the lights going out and spawning monsters, etc. Good job!

  • DOOMWORLD's AndrewB (newstuff chronicles):

Doom Classic 5: Mars outpost by Anthony Soto - To many, this is what a DOOM level should be. A single map, running on E2M5. This level is successful in recreating the true feel of DOOM. This is a wonderful fear-induced level. There are no big monsters, but health runs low, and the ratio of monsters to ammo available is balanced superbly, especially on Ultra-Violence. Well worth a download.
